Jama Masjid
Built by Shah Jahan in 1658, Jama Masjid is one of the largest mosques in India.

As I opted the packaged tour by DTDC (Delhi Tourism development Corporation), it enabled me to cover Jama Masjid with in it. Before starting our expedition, I was given a brochure about the place that we had to visit in this package. As I went through brochures, I came to know that construction of Jama Masjid began in 1650 by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan to complement his palace at the Red fort.

As it was a guided tour, I didn't faced any problem in collecting information. “ More than 5000 workers tailored for six years to complete the largest mosque in India” said the guide. The main courtyard of the mosque is 408 square feet and paved with red sand stone.

The guide, Sachin, also showed us the bulbous dome and tapering minarets that was built with marble. Surprisingly, the mosque has three gateways, four angle towers and two meter 40 high minarets. Many of the tourist had to pay Rs 100 for carrying camera into the mosque.
