Humayun tomb was also included in our trip that was scheduled by DTDC ( Delhi Tourism Development Corporation.). The tomb is situated at Nizzamudin, on the Mathura road. Sir, just like Taj mahal is for Agra, Humayun yomb is for Delhi. The Tomb is Delhi's Taj proclaimed our guide, Ram, who escorted us on the guided tour by DTDC. Our guide told us that this place opens on all the weekdays from sunrise to sunset. As we went on Monday, there was an entry fee of Rs 5 for adults ( this was at my time, about 6 months back). The children below 12 were not charged. If you would have visited this place on friday, there won't have been any entry fee informed ram. As I went throught the brochures given to us, in the beginning of the trip, I came to know that this marvellous building holds a significant place in the Indian history. The tomb was built by Haji Begum, senior wife of Humayun, the second mughal emperor. I was astound by the architectural of this edifice. The structure was builtin red sand stone, in an octagonal shape ornamented in white and black marble, geomatrical patterns and high arches. The mausoleum was raised on two platforms, one above the other, and is connected with a flight of stairs. It seems that this garden is divided in four I exclaimed. That's right! It is! In fact, it is named Char- bagh (Four gardens). The garden is divided into four by water channels that are further divide by pathways. According to legends, it is belived that Mirak Miraz ghiyas was the real designer of this magnificient tomb and he took nine years to built the tomb that was completed in 1569-70. |
