Birla Mandir
BuilT by G. D. Birla in 1938. This beautiful temple dedicated to the goddess of prosperity and good fortune. It is also known as the Laxmi Narayan Temple.

“ O.K! So this temple was built by Birla's family.” I said. The Birla or Laxmi Narayan temple lies west of Cannaught Place. The presiding deity is Laxmi Narayan, Indian god. The temple was built over a period of six years and was opened by Mahatma Gandhi.

I was quite impressed by Reeta, her knowledge about the temple was something. She told me that the highest tower in the temple reaches a height of 165 feet while the ancillary towers reach 116 feet.

" You Know there is gallery named after me in this temple-The Reeta Bhavan" The Geeta Bhawan was a big hall, adorned with beautiful paintings depicting scenes from Indian mythology. There is also a temple dedicated to Buddha in this complex with fresco paintings describing his life and work.

" How do you know so much! Geeta... " I exclaimed. " Nothing special! Wilson, it's my interest or you can say my hobby to know about things" Geeta replied.

The temple complex, especially the walls and the upper gallery are full of paintings carried out by artists from Jaipur in Rajasthan. The rear of the temple has been developed as an artificial mountainous landscape with fountains and waterfalls.

I especially liked the exterior that was faced with the white marble and red sandstone. "That's typical of Delhi's Mughal architecture." Geeta said The interior court overlooked the two-storey verandahs on three sides; there are gardens and fountains at the rear.
