Fishing
Fishing is one activity that I love and in US, it was my favorite pass
time. And when I came to know about fishing in Jim Corbett, I was filled
with another energy level. As I enquired, I came to know that Jim
Corbett was himself a very good fisher. Through his book, Man Eaters in
Kumaon, I came to know that Mahasheer, a species of fish, is abundantly
found in the Jim Corbett river, River Ramganga. The book detailed the
Mahaseer, as a fresh water scaly fish, that can attain a huge size.
Experts have identified about six species in India and Himalayan Mahasir
is considered as the main speicies found in Ramganga.
Probably, I can never forget the time that I spent in Jim Corbett, as I
did my favorite activity fishing. Oh! how I loved the hours, I spent
fishing ..catching the fishes. In fact, I also came to know that there
are several tour packages that are conducted by the local tour operator.
Bird watching
I snapped babblers, doves, king fishers and many may more. The National
Park is rich in biogeographic diversity and is a home to 600 species of
the bird. So, you can very well understand how come I photographed so
many exotic birds.
The park has cuckoos, doves, bee eaters, rollers, flycatchers,
warblers, robins, chats, finches, forktails, hornbills, kingfishers and
many many more. It is also possibly one of the best places in the world
for observing birds of prey. About 50 species out of the total 70 odd
species found in South East Asia live in the park. The numerous water
bodies provide an ideal habitat for ducks and waders.
As I engaged myself with the bird watching tour, I was able to track
the variety of birds in the area. In fact, when I entered the park, I
was virtuaaly able to hear the orchestra of the birds.
Safaris
I was quite amazed to see that there are number of ways to cover the
Jim Corbett. The Jim Corbett National Park endorses Jeep Safari, Horse
Safari, Bird Safari, Elephant Safari, Fishing safari and the Nature
walk.
I explored the flora and fauna with the Jeep Safari that unfolded the
beauty of the Jim Corbett Park in India. Wildlife Safari of this park is
a delight for adventure lovers and wildlife photographers.
Oh! I was astound to know that the park housed horned rhinoceros,
several species of deer, sloth bear, wild boar, fresh water dolphin,
leopard, the marsh mugger and gharial crocodiles, over 450 species of
birds and the elusive, nocturnal Royal Bengal tiger. Oh! yes, another
way that I covered Jim Corbett was nature's walk. That safari was guided
by an expert, who knew each part of the Jungle, and I was escorted by
six more tourists.
Wildlife photography
Earlier I used to wonder, why does the wildlife photographer risk his
life to capture some photographs of the animals? Why do they stand alone
in the dark in cold and remote places, waiting for the sun to rise?
Overnighting in cheap motels in small towns, or in isolated campgrounds,
away from our friends and families. Driving long distances, frequently
alone, to unfamiliar places. What sort of compulsion is this?
In fact some times back, I used to find, wildlife photographers, a
strange breed. Whether they do it for a living, as an art, or simply as
a hobby, they spend large amounts of money on equipment, film and
processing, and travel. All these question used to sprung in my mind
...after all other people have similar expensive compulsions, including
golf, skiing and fly fishing, to name several. But none require the
frequent isolation and effort that many of us photographers expend. But
probably today, I know the reason why??
No doubt! there is lot of scope in Jim Corbett, to actually explore the
wildlife and capture the photographs of the fuana in the camera.
Fortunately, I also got many opportunity to snap some photographs of the
wildlife and I didn't missed it. The Jim Corbett is rich in both flora
and fuana.
Nature Travel
Oh! I had a great fun when I opted nature's walk in Jim Corbett
National park. Situated at the foothills of central Himalayas, it boost
an exotic flora and fuana. " hey! that's deer! " shouted one
of my fellow tourist who was escorting me with five others and a guide.
While moving through the long yellow grass the only fear that I had,
what if we come face to face with the tiger. But then I knew the fact
that we were headed by an expert guide, who would not let us come in
trouble.
Wow!, I still remember the exotic ambiance of the grassland and the
bites of the mosquitoes and insects as we penetrated the grass land.
Although there were other ways to cover Jim Corbett like the Jeep
safari, horse safari but I found the walk .....the best.
