Last but not the least, We arrived at our last destination Yamnotri, the last of all the four dham. Believe me! When I actually started the trip... to Char Dham...I was quite skeptical..since I never believed in God...but after covering the three dhams, I introspect myself and found no........there is a god within me and at Yamnotri I never wanted this journey to finish. I visited the main temple in Yamnotri, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. My guide Pinku told me that, this temple was built by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur in the late nineteenth century. Once destroyed by an earthquake, it has been rebuilt. He also showed me the sacred tank where most Indian were taking a holy dip. The tank was filled by hot springs and cooking rice in its water are common rituals performed by the devotees. As we explored Yamnotri, we visited Surya Kund, an important thermal springs known for its very high temperature of 190°F. Pilgrims cook rice and potatoes here to offer to the deity in the temple. An interesting monument was the Divya Shila, a huge rock pillar venerated before entering the Yamunotri Temple. I also visited the Hanumana chatti, the confluence of Hanuman Ganga and Yamuna rivers forms the starting point for the scenic Dodi Tal Trek. |
