Well, I was overwhelmed by experiencing the beauty of the Gangotri. It is believed in Hindu religion that Goddess Ganga manifested herself in the river to absolve the sins of the Kings Sagar sons. Well, I also liked the temple built at the banks of the Bhagirathi river. My guide told me that this temple was built in 18th century by a gorkaha commander Amar singh Thapa and devoted it to goddess Ganga. The shrine is situated at an altitude of 3, 200 mets. While conversating with my escort, Pinku, I came to know that lakhs of devotees throng to this place in the month of May and October. Another important site that lies close to the temple is the submerged shilling. As I discussed the place with other fellow tourist, I came to know a myth connected to this place. It is believed that Lord Shiva sat at this spot to receive the Ganga in his matted locks. Apart from the great pilgrimage site, the abode is a paradise for trekkers, mountaineers. As I was going through one brochures, I acquainted with the fact that we can enroll to this trekking troupe through Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi and Indian Mountaineering foundations, Anand niketan, Delhi. |
