History of Ayurveda
Ayurveda is a holistic health system that originated around 5000 years ago in India. And I am amazed that the medical system has not lost its efficiency over a period of time.

Through net, I came to know that Ayurveda dates back to 5,000-10,000 years and is considered to be the oldest form of health care in the world. Fortunately Ananda boosted a library that holded good books on Ayurveda and Ayurveda therapy. “ What more you need , Bill!!” I thought. As I love reading books , I popped in the library and took out many books on Ayurveda. The head librararian , Mr Tripathi, then showed me an English Version of Charaka Samhita , the main textbook of Ayurveda.

The Charaka Samhita, describes how in ancient times the Vedic Rishis or the enlightened sages became concerned that mankind was suffering from many illnesses. Mr. Tripathi ( A researcher in Ayurveda) was a great help as he narrated me the entire story of the formation of Ayurveda. He told me that in ancient times, a meeting of the great sages was called to find a way to aid mankind and the knowledge of Ayurveda came out of this gathering. The technique the Rishis used to discover Ayurveda has no corollary in the modern scientific age and was a completely "Vedic" solution to the problem.

By going through many Ayurvedic books, I got acquainted with the fact that around Ayurveda in 1500 B.C. was delineated into eight specific branches of medicine. There were two main schools of Ayurveda at that time, Atria- the school of physicians; and Dhanvantari- the school of surgeons. These two schools made Ayurveda a more scientifically verifiable and classifiable medical system. Through research and testing, they dispelled the doubts of the more practical and scientific minded, removing the aura of mystery that surrounded the concept of Divine revelation.

As I spoke to many therapist about Ayurveda many other facts came into fore front. Over the decades, Ayurveda has grown into a respected and widely used system of healing in India. People from numerous countries came to Indian Ayurvedic schools to learn about this world medicine- in its completeness. Chinese, Tibetans, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Afghanistanis, Persians, and more traveled to learn the complete wisdom and bring it back to their own countries.
