Umananda Temples
Ignoring Umananda temple on my Guwahati tour would have been my foolishness.

Another temple that I explored in Guwahati was Umananda temple. Being the capital city of Assam, Guwahati encompassed many tourists spots that were worth exploring.

Located in Peacock Island on the river Brahmaputra, in Guwahati, Umananda Temple is one of the important revered temples of Guwahati. Ignoring Umananda temple on my Guwahati tour would have been my foolishness. This was another temple that was situated on the hill - Bhasmachala Hill or the Hill of ashes.

The beauty of the temple indeed enticed me. " Who is the deity of this temple?" I asked the priest. " Lord Shiva" answered priest. The rock-cut figures of gods and goddesses that adorn the walls of the temple are specimens of exquisite Assamese craftsmanship. The temple was constructed in 1594.

" This temple was built during the reign of the Ahom ruler Gadadhar Singh in late 17th century. It was renewed later in the 20th century following its destruction during an earthquake." informed me the priest.

I was infact quite enticed by the beauty of this temple. Visited by devotees from all over the world, you will find the temple mostly crowded.
