After exploring every facet of Tezpur, I headed towards another fascinating city of Assam, Majuli. Nestled in the lap of the mighty Brahmaputra, Majuli offers many picturesque tourists spots to explore. Situated close to Jorhat (12 km), Majoli falls in Sibasagar district. Moving from Tezpur to Majuli was not a difficulty as the place is well linked with rail and road. Earlier I thought to explore Jorhat first, but then I changed my idea and Majuli came first on the list. Travelling to Majuli was like a dream come true. Majuli enjoys the privilege of being the largest river island in the world. It was indeed a fascination for me to discover Majuli, the enticing city on my Assam tour. Covering an area of around 800 sq km, Majuli is nature's treasure and there fore it added a lot of spice on my tour to Majuli. Majuli is a rich place in tradition and culture and boasting of a glorious past. With the establishment of Vaishnava Saint Srimanta Sankaradeva and his chief disciple Sri Sri Madhavdeva in the 15th century, Majuli emerged as the crowning glory of Vaishnavite's culture in Assam. As a tourists, I had many attractions to explore and I literally loved it. Though a small city, Majuli was a dream destination to explore. The places that I visited on my Majuli tour were Dakhinpat Satra, Garamurh Satra , Kamalabari Satra and Bengenaati Satra. |
