Kamakhya Temple
I just didn't wanted to miss any of the tourist attractions in Assam. Being one of the reknowned temple of Assam, Kamakhya temple is an enticing place to explore.

Visiting Kamakhya temple was quite obvious as I was on my way to explore Guwahati but the major purpose behind was to collects snaps of these great heritage site.

Ki chen, my friend in Bangkok was collecting work on the heritage site, I thought, and this is the best way to help him out. " Hey! possibly today, I will be moving to Kamakhya Temple" I informed, Ki chen. After the conversation, I was easily able to make out that my friend was quite enthused and loved the proposal I gave him.

The Kamakhya Temple in Assam is one of the most venerated Shakti shrines in India, and is regarded as one of the Shakti Peethams associated with the legend of Shiva and Daksha Yagna.

" See it is located on Nilachal hills and it will actually take time for to reach this temple from this place" said one of the residents in Kaziranga. Since I had to complete my project on one horned rhinos, Kaziranga became my first choice of exploration. Later when I completed my work, I headed to explore another tourist spots of Guwahati. From Guwahati, Kamakhya temple is about 8 km west of the city.

After finishing my project in Kaziranga ( 217 km from Guwahati), I started with my exploration and Kamakhaya Temple came first on my list. The temple is counted amongst the 108 Shakti Peet of Goddess Durga.

It is interesting for me to note that the temple didn't had any image but a sculpture that was in a shape of YONI that was kept wet through moisture.

Now, this do sound weird but then people have a lot of faith on this temple. And you can see the intensity of their belief especially during Ambubachi festival. The fest is held in the month of June when it is believed that Goddess Durga undergo her annual menstruation period. The temple remains closed for three days and the devotees are allowed to enter the on the fourth day. I came to know all this through a local priest who was good enough to tell me the significance of the temple and its customs.
