My project on one - horned rhino was the major thing that flashed almost every time I thought about Assam. Okay! first thing is first, I will finish my project first and then later I will think of any other thing, I thought. At Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, I came to know that Kaziranga is quite far from the place and I might have to take a train journey to the national park. hmm, so now what?, I thought. I came out of the airport and headed towards the nearest railway station, Guwahati Railway station. Throughout my train journey to Kaziranga national Park, I was reading the brochures that I collected from the airport and railway station, consequently. The brochures majorly spoke about the cities, national park, monuments and few other attractions of the state. Guwahati was the capital city of Assam so it was neatly decked up to welcome foreign tourists from all over the world. Being the capital city of Assam, Guwahati encompassed Kaziranga national Park, Kamakhya Temple, Manas Tiger Reserve and Navgarh Temple, with in one landscape. The other cities that brochure spoke about was Digboi, the oil city of Assam. This city is famous for its National Oil Park and people visit this place just in order to have a look at it. One particular thing that all the brochures talked about was the Assam Tea. It was interesting for me to know that Assam was the worlds single largest tea-growing region, producing more than 1,500,000 pounds of tea annually. Hmm... so this seems to be a collectible material, I thought.. This journey was one of its kind as this was the first time I was moving on train in India. Surrounded by co passengers, I tried to interact with people and found that they were highly amicable and were genuine by heart. Interestingly, most of them were literate and were well versed with English. Talking to them brought me closer to the culture and I started understanding them. With in a period of 3- 4 hours, I was in Kaziranga from where my actual exploration began. |
