After exploring Warangal fort, I was quite interested to know which is the second Warangal attractions we were going to explore. It came out to be Thousand Pillar Temple. " Thousand Pillar Temple... it seems the temple has thousand pillars or so" I exclaimed ." It is for you to find out" the guide replied without answering my question. "Aha! smart guy" I thought. Constructed in 1163 AD by Rudra Deva, the temple comprises of three shrines which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Lord Siva and Lord Surya. Just for example, in this temple itself I was mobbed by Pandits or the saints. They wanted to extract a large sum of money from me by keeping faith and religion at stake. But this guy, Veerapan, my guide just got hold of everything and saved me from those touts. " Fascinating! See there are thousands temple.. I guessed it right" I said looking at my guide and he gave back a sarcastic smile as if saying " Not a big deal, even a dumb person could know that." I was quite impressed by the 'Nandi' sculpture which was made in the form of cow and from basalt salt. The garden is yet another attractions of this temple. You will be able to locate many lingams in this garden. I truly enjoyed the my time in this temple. Though the temple was constructed ages back but due to its proper maintenance, the temple retain its age old charm. I was indeed mesmerized by its beauty. |
